Stolen Valor: Pantelides Panhandles as a Vet
Stolen Valor: Pantelides Panhandles as a Vet
Reported to Feds; Indictment Looms
Annapolis (SPP) – The hits just keep on coming for former Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides. It seems like he is the guy who just can’t get a break. After losing his job as mayor in a humiliating defeat to Gavin Buckley, Pantelides had to take a job as a dish washer in a Greek restaurant, only to be fired after a DNA test revealed that he wasn’t Greek at all, but half-Turkish. Dumped by his girlfriend, disowned by his family, and excommunicated from his Church, Pantelides has had a rough go at it. And this week, he faces not just more humiliation, but a looming Federal indictment for a violation of the Stolen Valor Act of 2013.
It all started last week when Pantelides started panhandling in downtown Annapolis. “I just wanted to get something to eat or something,” the former mayor told the Super Patriot Post, “and some of the other homeless guys said to write ‘Homeless Vet’ on your cardboard sign to get more money. I did see an increase in handouts, but sometimes people would ask questions about my service background. I’ve never been in the military, so would just pretend to be drunk if anyone started getting curious. One guy though, he wouldn’t leave me alone.”
Falsely claiming to have served in the armed forces to obtain any benefit, even a handout, is a Federal offense punishable by up to 1 year in prison. And unfortunately for Pantelides, one Good Samaritan, decided not to let crime go unpunished.
“I spent 27 years as a deep cover special operator for the CIA. I’ve served this country all over the world. Recently I worked in Afghanistan. Stolen Valor cases make me sick with anger,” Wayne Simmons an Annapolis resident who encountered Pantelides told the Super Patriot Post. “I immediately called up the US Attorney in Baltimore, right after I snapped some video and photos of my encounter with that rat on my iPhone.”
The US Attorney confirmed that they had received this report and told the Super Patriot Post to expect an indictment in days.
When later reached for comment about this development, Pantelides said, “Oh come on, man. Why can’t you leave me alone? I lost the election.” He then hung up the phone.
The Super Patriot Post will follow this story as it develops.
