Anne Arundel Basketball Team Continues to Struggle
Steve Schuh fired by Coach Adams

Coach Adams reflecting on future of his team

Annapolis (SPP) – The Sailors, the Annapolis/Anne Arundel County Government Employee Basketball team, continues to struggle with no end in sight.

First, they lost team center, Mike Pantelides, after he failed to get re-elected Mayor of Annapolis. Then Anne Arundel Sheriff Ron Bateman, the team’s shooting guard, was suspended for five games last week after he was again accused of domestic violence. And now, after the devastating loss to the Baltimore City Rioters, Coach Wes Adams fired his small forward, County Executive Steve Schuh.

“Steve was already on probation after he tested positive for marijuana,” the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney and county basketball coach told reporters today. “I should have fired him then, but he claimed he had a medical card. But after his performance against the Rioters, I just had no choice,” Adams said.

During last night’s game, the Baltimore City employee team dominated the field to win 99 to 25. Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, the coach of the Baltimore Rioters, cited team work, but also said players Anne Leitess and Michael Dunty deserved special praise. “The way Anne kept stripping the ball from Steve Schuh was amazing. I’m even a little afraid of her after seeing how aggressive she was. And Dunty has mastered the art of deception on the court. They kept falling for his pass and shot fakes,” a jubilant Mosby said.

The Sailors have never won a State Championship in their 25 years in existence, but this year is set to become it’s worst on record. Adams, who took over three years ago, said mistakes by past coaches have made his job more difficult. “We’ve brought in a lot of good talent from other places, such as Prince George’s County. I think we may need to step up our recruitment efforts there,” Adams said.
