Gavin Buckley Wins Approval for Ferris Wheel
Will have African Safari Theme
Annapolis (SPP) – Mayor-elect, Gavin Buckley today announced that his administration had received assurances of approval and funding to build a Ferris Wheel and African Safari themed park in Annapolis.
Ground breaking for the park is expected to start in May, 2018, on the site of the parking lot near the city dock in downtown Annapolis. The parking spaces will be replaced by an African style park where animals, such as leopards and elephants will roam freely among the park visitors. Buckley stated that the animals would be rescued from circuses and private exhibits around the country and would be sedated daily so as to make any attack unlikely.
The crown jewel of the park will be a Ferris Wheel near the end of the dock. Buckley, who generated controversy during the campaign for suggesting that they build a Ferris Wheel downtown later claimed he was joking. However, Buckley said today, “after I got to thinking about it, it really sounded like a good idea. It works for London. This will get people excited about coming downtown and will be good for business.”
Buckley stated that his primary rival, State Senator John Astle, insisted on the Safari theme as contingent to getting State funding for the project. As part of Astle’s demands, visitors will also be allowed to hunt the animals from the Ferris Wheel. To make sure that nothing goes to waste, the hunted animals will be on the menu at Buckley’s restaurants.
Buckley also said he was able to get support from the majority of the incoming City Council, but that Alderman Sheila Finlayson said she could only support the park if it had an African focus and free entry to anyone wearing a traditional African costume. South African born Buckley was happy to agree. Speaking of South Africa, Buckley said, “I’m hoping to make Annapolis the Rainbow City by bringing a piece of the Rainbow Nation here.”
Buckley noted that the South African themed park would be open to everyone, except on the odd “80’s Nights” when blacks would be banned.
